Apple is moving the Mac mini production to the USA and it raises a lot of questions, however even more questions are being left unasked. Is this a good move for our economy? Are we getting back jobs that had been lost to China? Is this a PR/political move to cover Apple’s ass from future scrutiny? Is this a business tactic used to negotiate even more business relations with China in the future? Is this an example of how automation is surpassing human labor? As much as I like my Mac mini; Apple’s move leaves me some what skeptical.

I want to see products made in a sustainable and economic way.  I assume, everyone wants to see  economic advantage benefit locally where the products are sold and used. Shouldn’t we also expect more economic advantage in a local area were there are produced? This last question is based in what Apple is ‘selling’ us, however what is actually happening is a much deeper story.

Apple is one of the largest and most powerful corporation in the USA. When Apple does something we should be mindful of what is happening, what will happen, and why it’s happening. This could be a minor foot-note in American manufacturing, or the beginning of a big change in the producer/consumer relationship. Only time will tell.
